Pomodoro Timer

Run repeated work and break cycles, starting with the familiar 25-minute work and 5-minute break pattern or your own durations.

Repeated work and break cycles

The standard starting pattern is 25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break. You can change work, break, long-break, and cycle settings while keeping the current phase and cycle count visible. The method structures time but does not guarantee productivity.

Use the Focus Session Timer for one planned block, the Study Timer for a fixed study countdown, the Study Stopwatch for open-ended tracking, or the Break Timer for a standalone rest.

How it works

Pomodoro Timer alternates focused work blocks with short breaks. The main display shows the active phase, cycle count, and remaining time, so you can tell whether you are working, resting, or finished without reading a long setup panel.

Set the structure. Use Work, Break, and Cycles to define the session. A common setup is 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of break, and 4 cycles.
Pick automatic or manual flow. Auto moves to the next phase when the current phase ends. Turn it off when you want to pause between phases and press Next yourself.
Use sound only when helpful. Sound and final countdown beeps are optional. Some browsers require a page interaction before audio can play.
Long break is session-level. Enable the long break when you want a longer rest after the final work cycle instead of another short break.
Need one work block without cycles? Try the Focus Session Timer. Want more flexible work and break modes? Use the Productivity Timer. Planning a day by blocks? Use the Time Blocking Clock. Need a plain countdown instead? Countdown Timer is the simpler tool. For workout intervals, use HIIT Timer.

Related single-block timer

If you want one half-hour countdown without Pomodoro cycles, use the 30 minute timer. This Pomodoro timer stays focused on repeated work and break phases.

Keyboard shortcuts

Click the Pomodoro timer card once, then use the shortcuts below. Shortcuts won’t trigger while you’re typing in an input field.

KeyAction
SpaceStart / pause

RReset routine (back to the start)
FToggle fullscreen
EscExit fullscreen
Tip: if shortcuts do nothing, the card probably isn’t focused. Click inside the tool area once (not inside an input), then try again.

Common scenarios

Pomodoro Timer is for structured work and break cycles with optional sound, long break, auto-advance, and fullscreen.

Classic 25/5 focus cycles
Run 25-minute work blocks with 5-minute short breaks and repeat for the number of cycles you choose.
For
Study blocks, writing sessions, coding sessions, chores, admin tasks, review sessions, and focused desk work.
Not for
A single one-off countdown with no phase switching. Use Countdown Timer for that.
Manual phase control when interruptions happen
Turn off auto-advance or use Next when you need to pause, skip, or manually move between work and break phases.
For
People working around calls, interruptions, or flexible breaks.
Not for
Hands-free workout intervals. Use HIIT Timer or Workout Timer instead.
Long break after the final work block
Enable the long break option when you want a larger rest period after the last work cycle.
For
Long study sessions and repeat focus sessions.
Not for
Open-ended elapsed time. Use Count Up Timer or Stopwatch instead.
Fullscreen focus display
Use fullscreen when you want the active phase and remaining time visible without extra page content.
For
Second monitors, shared study rooms, and distraction-light focus.
Not for
A no-sound timer by default. Use Silent Timer if quiet completion is the main requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pomodoro Timer?
Pomodoro Timer is a focus timer that alternates work sessions and breaks for a set number of cycles. This page lets you customize work time, break time, cycles, optional long break after the last cycle, plus sound alerts, auto-advance, fullscreen, and keyboard shortcuts.
What are the default Pomodoro settings here?
By default, it starts as a 25-minute work session and a 5-minute short break, repeating for 4 cycles, with an optional long break setting available.
How do I start and pause the timer?
Click Start to begin and Pause to stop. You can also press Space after clicking the timer card once.
What does Auto do?
When Auto is on, the timer advances to the next phase automatically when a phase ends. When Auto is off, the timer stops at 0 and waits for you to press Next.
What does Next do?
Next skips to the next phase in the routine. For example, it moves from Work to Short break, or from a break back to Work. It is useful if you finish early or want to move on without waiting.
What does Reset do?
Reset returns you to the start of the routine: Work phase, cycle 1, and the full work duration. It also stops the timer.
How do cycles work on this page?
Each cycle consists of one Work phase followed by a Short break. The cycle counter advances after each break. After the final Work session, the routine either starts a Long break (if enabled) or ends as Complete.
What is the Long break option?
If enabled, a Long break starts after your final work session. If you turn long break off, the routine ends after the last work session and shows Complete.
What are “Final 3-2-1 beeps”?
If enabled (and Sound is on), the timer plays short beeps at 3, 2, and 1 seconds remaining to help you catch the end of a phase without staring at the screen.
Why don’t I hear sound?
Make sure Sound is enabled, your device volume is up, and the tab is not muted. Some browsers require a user interaction before audio can play, so press Start once with Sound on.
How do I use fullscreen mode?
Click Fullscreen (or press F after clicking the timer card once). Press Esc to exit fullscreen. In fullscreen, you can tap/click the time to start or pause.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Space: start/pause · N: next · R: reset · F: fullscreen
Tip: click the timer card once so it captures keyboard input. Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in an input.
What happens if I switch tabs?
The timer uses a target end time and recalculates remaining time from the device clock. Background tabs, sleeping devices, and power-saving modes can still affect animation smoothness and audio cues.
Does this tool send any data anywhere?
No. The timer runs locally in your browser. This page does not send your timer settings or timer state anywhere.
Which related timer should I use instead?
Want a study-focused layout? Study Timer. Prefer a single uninterrupted focus block? Focus Session Timer. Need a simple countdown with no phases? Countdown Timer. Want structured breaks without cycles? Break Timer. Want broader work and break modes? Productivity Timer. Planning several blocks in a day? Time Blocking Clock. Want a pure big-screen view? Fullscreen Timer. Prefer no audio at all? Silent Timer.

Run focused work sessions with timed breaks, without thinking about what comes next. Start a 25/5 routine (or your own timings), let it switch phases for you, and use fullscreen when you want a clean, minimal display. Skip ahead when you need to, or turn off auto-advance for manual control.
Work, break, cycles. Set your Work minutes, Break minutes, and how many cycles you want to complete.
Long break (optional). Enable a long break after the last cycle and choose the minutes. If you disable long break, the routine ends cleanly after the final work session.

Sound + final beeps. Toggle sound for phase change alerts. Optionally enable final 3-2-1 beeps near the end (only when Sound is on).
Fullscreen display. Go fullscreen for a large countdown. In fullscreen you can tap/click the time to start or pause.
